WU-TANG CLAN AUS & NZ TOUR MERCHANDISE
This project was a lesson in going after what you want. Our Creative Director, Kiel Tillman, is a huge Hip Hop fan, so when Wu-tang Clan announced they were going to play 3 shows at the Sydney Opera House, he immediately bought tickets. Soon after purchasing the tickets he had an idea for a t-shirt, so he designed it and put it out on social media with the aim to get it in front of the group.
After some back and forth, Kiel was able to get a meeting with their brand manager. The two hit it off and after an hour long phone call, Kiel realised that he was just hired to design the whole range of merchandise for their Australia and New Zealand, 36 Chambers 25th anniversary tour.
We enlisted the help of Zachary Bennett-Brook aka Saltwater Dreamtime, to create some indigenous dot painting to incorporate into one of the Australian designs. For the New Zealand range we got Maori artist, Rick Pearce to create some traditional artwork for one of the designs. The whole range came together in time with the help of Jungle Merchandise, who sourced and produced all of the garments and hats.
The merch was a huge success and sold out at all venues. The opera house t-shirt sold out on the first night of their 3 night stint. Jungle merchandise had to madly re-print more of each t-shirt to keep the remaining shows stocked.
It was a pleasure working with everyone involved and look forward to working with Wu-tang Clan more in the future!
