GRIZZLY WITH GOOD CHARACTER

SPEC RESTAURANT & BEER GARDEN

As newcomers to the popular food precinct in Nobby's, SPEC owners Matt and Mandy had big plans to create a unique venue that provided a much-needed solution to a gap in the local market. We were tasked with creating a brand identity that would integrate seamlessly with their plans for the interior space design; a gritty and textural space that perfectly balanced a warmth with edge.

They also wanted us to explore integrating inspirations from a military background, due to family ties to special forces unit The Bears, and this theme already having an impact on their creative applications like naming & interior fitout.

So we got to work finding the balance to create an identity that was striking against a sea of other venues in the area. We worked in elements of industrial, military and ornamental design to create a logo suite that nodded to the family miltary ties. We also went all out on a grizzly bear mural design that would sit alongside neon typography in the moody dining space.

"Initially, we were confused with the direction we should take and getting our ideas onto paper. We were at the beginning stage of our fit out and needed a visual style and identity for the space we were about to build. Kiel did an amazing job at really listening and bringing our ideas and story to life, so much so we brought everything we could into the space - including artworks, signage and mural. Extremely well organised, great communication and an all round lovely guy to work with!"
